Deuteronomy 5:1, 6, 33
For the 3rd in our series of summer sermons, “Retelling the Story”, we will look at God’s effort to address the tragic flaw — human frailty and finitude leading to violence and alienation, driven by fear instead of love.
Read Deuteronomy 5:1, 6, and 33.
Verse 1 — can we achieve righteousness by learning and observing God’s law? If so, how do we spot righteous people and unrighteous people?
Verse 6 — When God says “you shall have no other gods before me”, how good are you at obeying?
Verse 33 — Who doesn’t want to have life “go well with you, and…live long in the land that you are to possess”? Who can perfectly (or even partially) “follow exactly the path that the Lord your God has commanded you…”?
What are we to do if we do not do these things? Is all hope lost?
