Luke 8:26-39

This Sunday, we return to the Gospel of Luke, and will continue there through the balance of the summer. Our reading is Luke 8:26-39.

This is an odd story about Jesus’ exorcism of a man inhabited by a “Legion” of demons.

What do you make of this story — and of demons? For us, this is more the realm of fringe religious types and the movie “The Exorcism”. But slow yourself down, as you read it, and seek God’s Word in this story.

Why do you suppose “the people of the surrounding country of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them” (Luke 8:37)?

If you think of your own anti-social impulses as the thing being described as “demons” here, does that change your understanding?
