Mark 9:2-9
This Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday. It is a bridge between our brief Ordinary Time and the season of Lent. Our reading is Mark 9:2-9.
In order to understand the context of this strange and powerful reading, read Mark 8:27-9:1.
We are told that Peter “did not know what to say, for they were terrified” (Mark 9:6). Imagine yourself there on the mountain, seeing what they saw. Would you be terrified? What might you say?
Peter had just proclaimed that Jesus is the Christ (Mark 8:29). Why do you think Peter was so surprised that God would reveal Jesus as Christ in such a dramatic way as is recorded in Mark 9:2-9?
We Christians believe that Jesus is the Christ. Have you ever experienced the living, risen Christ in relationship with you?
