Psalm 90:12-17; Mark 10:17-31

This week our Psalm reading is Psalm 90:12-17 and our Gospel reading is Mark 10:17-31.

Psalm 90 opens Book Four of the Psalms. This section of the Psalter is focused on the restoration of the Lord as sovereign through the Babylonian captivity, the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple, and renewed freedom from the Babylonians — a chance for Israel to start anew.

Psalm 90:12 is itself enough to meditate on for a whole day!

The key to understanding the “hard sayings” in Mark 10:17-31 is verse 27.

Why was it so hard for the man in Mark 10:17-22 to do as Jesus told him to do? What does Jesus ask of you that “you just can’t let go of”?

Why does Jesus say that if we leave everything to follow him we will “receive a hundredfold now in this age” a whole bunch of cool stuff? Really?
