Deuteronomy 6:1-9, Mark 12:28-34
This week we read Deuteronomy 6:1-9 and Mark 12: 28-34.
The reading from Deuteronomy is called the “Shema”, because the first word, “Hear…”, is Shema in Hebrew. Consider this: it calls upon people of the covenant to teach the Law to their children. This is the foundation of our vow to help baptized children to “know Christ, to love him, and to serve him.”
The reading from Mark is one of my favorites. It is the basis of my often-repeated comment that our whole religion is about relationships, and that love God and neighbor is the heart of it all…the rest is details.
