Luke 14:25-33
This is our last Sunday with a single Scripture reading: Luke 14:25-33. And it is a doozy!
Let’s start with this: Why does Jesus basically say, “If you don’t hate your family and your life, you can’t follow me”? What!?!?
Reflect on the two analogies Jesus offers: one involving a building project and another a war. Do these connect with you? How would you summarize their common point?
Finally, Jesus provides another one of those “glosses”, those summary statements: “So therefore, none of you can become my disciple if you do not give up all your possessions.” Here is a clue about this statement: Jesus does not say “sell” your possessions, but “give up” your possessions. What do you suppose Jesus is up to here?
