Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-7
During the Sundays in Lent we will be reading from the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament). This is some of the most ancient literature in the Bible. To begin, we read Genesis 2:15-17; 3:1-6, the story of human beings’ first rebellion against God’s created order, sometimes referred to as The Fall.
What do you think about the serpent? In this story, the serpent is not the devil, but is a creature made by God.
It is often said that free will made it possible for the human beings to rebel. As you read, does this seem plausible?
Why do you think God let this happen in the first place? Why not create human beings perfect?
