Proverbs 4:10-18 / John 14:1-14
We continue to follow the “I am” statements Jesus makes in John’s Gospel. This week, the word is, “I am the way and the truth and the life”. See John 14:1-14.
Many people hear this passage as exclusionary and triumphalist, as if Jesus is bringing down judgment against all other faiths and philosophies. What do you think?
Jesus also makes an astonishing claim: “If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on, you do know him and have seen him” (John 14:7). What do you suppose Jesus means that we will “know” and “see” God? Has this been your experience?
What is the difference between believing in God and knowing/seeing God?
Finally, Jesus says, “If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it” (John 14:14). Has this been your experience of prayer in Jesus’ name?
