Psalm 100 / John 10:1-10
This Sunday we shift to John’s Gospel, and to one of its “I am” passages: John 10:1-10.
Just for fun, speed read through John’s Gospel and see how many times you can find places where Jesus says, “I am…”. This is an echo of the Lord’s response to Moses when Moses asked what to call the Lord, and the Lord said, “I AM”.
Take some time to reflect on Jesus’ metaphor of a sheep-gate. Think about gates: What do they look like? What is their purpose (there is more than one purpose to gates)? Imagine yourself running from danger and finding safety behind a gate. Imagine yourself relaxing inside a fold or a yard, protected by a sturdy gate.
Jesus says, “I came that they may have life, and have it in abundance” (John 10:10). What is abundant life to you?
